Bomarzo: the Tuscia village that enchants with its Monster Park

Bomarzo is one of the best-known historical centers of Lazio, thanks in particular to the presence of the famous Parco dei Mostri or Sacro Bosco. Located among rolling hills near the border with Umbria, it is immersed in a beautiful rural landscape at 263 meters above sea level and about 17 km from Viterbo.

The Monster Park, commissioned by Prince Pier Vicino Orsini and created by the Renaissance architect Pirro Ligorio, is an astonishing world of stone that inspires fear and wonder in every visitor. Completely immersed in greenery, the park amazes and confuses with optical illusions, gigantic monsters and mythological animals, inscriptions on the works of Ariosto and Petrarca and hidden enigmas still unsolved.

Bomarzo is also an Orange Flag village, a prestigious quality mark awarded by the Italian Touring Club for tourism-environmental development. Unmissable in the village are Palazzo Orsini and the Church of Santa Maria Assunta, the cathedral which houses the relics of Sant'Anselmo di Bomarzo. Among the typical food and wine products, the Sant'Anselmo biscuit, an anise-flavoured donut.
Bomarzo is an ideal destination for those who love nature, history and art, but also for those looking for a different and evocative experience, in a place where "every thought flies".
